Manchester United Football Club (MUFC) is an English professional football club from Old Trafford, Greater Manchester. Manchester United F.C. was created in 1878 as Newton Heath LYR Football Club. The club dropped the "LYR" from its name in 1882, and changed name to Manchester United in 1902. In 1956-57, the club became the first English club to enter European competition.
