Everton Football Club - Overview

Everton Football Club is an English professional association football club from the city of Liverpool. Everton F.C. are nicknamed "The Toffees", "The Toffeemen", "The Blues", "The School of Science" and "The People's Club". Everton was created as St Domingo's F.C. in 1878, but changed name to Everton F.C. in 1879. Everton were founding members of Football League in 1888-89.



Everton won the FA Cup for the first time in 1906 .In the mid of 1980, Everton won two League Championship and a FA Cup. In 1985 Everton won European. In 2004-05 Everton finish a fourth place and Everton qualified for the Champions League qualifying round. Everton qualified for the 2007-08 and 2008-09 UEFA Cup competitions and they were runners-up in the 2009 FA Cup Final.

Everton have a notable rivalry with neighbours Liverpool F.C. who broke away in 1892, and both regularly contest the Merseyside Derby. Goodison Park, one of the world's first purpose-built football grounds situated in Walton, Liverpool is home of Everton F.C. since 1892, after their previous 1884-92 home Anfield, became exclucisve to Liverpool football club. Everton have many fans, known as Evertonians and regularly attract high attendance averaging over 36,000 people per game. In October 2009, Everton took 7,000 travelling fans to Benfica.


Everton Manager, David Moyes has broken the club record for highest transfer fee paid on four occasions, signing James Beattie for £6 million in January 2005, Andy Johnson for £8.6 million in summer 2006, Yakubu for £11.25 million in summer 2007, and Marouane Fellaini for £15 million in September 2008.

Everton have won the League Championship 9 times, 4th highesht of any club, and been runners-up on 7 times. Everton won five FA Cups and remained runners-up on eight times. Everton won their first continental trophy in the form of 1985 European Cup Winners' Cup. Everton were founding members of the Premier League in 1992.


Everton have competed in the top flight for a record 108 seasons, and have played more top- division league games than any other English team. Everton have remained in top flight of English football since 1954 and 2011-12 season of Premier League will be their 109th season ovearall. Everton were placed 7th in 2010-2011 Premier League and will try to improve in 2011-12 season of Premiership.
